Documentary Photos

While pregnant, my husband and I looked all over to find a house where we would be happy. We didn't notice the graffiti (or the gun shots) until we had lived in the house for a while. I chose to photograph some of the graffiti in our neighborhood because for a long time it was a huge issue to me (whether or not gang related, I have no idea). I am raising my children in this neighborhood and I get worried when I see a flood zone sign in front of a flood area that now reads "Blood zone". Is this a safe neighborhood to raise a family? I think it is safer than some neighborhoods. I should feel less safe than I do, but I have neighbors that are very active in looking out for each other. I used to feel more threatened by it all, but the graffiti has now, just become part of the neighborhood (and the gun shots...pretty rare).
